Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Introduced in 2011, the pupil premium is a sum of money given to schools each year by the Government to improve the attainment of disadvantaged children.

This is based on research showing that children from low income families perform less well at school than their peers. Often, children who are entitled to pupil premium face challenges such as poor language and communication skills, less family support, lack of confidence and issues with attendance and punctuality.

The school receives the money into their budget and the Headteacher is asked to identify the best way to use the funds to meet the needs of the pupils alongside the aims of the funding.

PPG Funding aims:

  • Raising the attainment of disadvantaged students of all abilities to reach their potential
  • Supporting children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces

At Royal Cross we receive the following Pupil Premiums:

Pupil Premium Grant (FSM)

All pupils who are in receipt of Free School Meals and those who have been eligible within the last six years (Ever 6) receive a pupil premium grant.

Primary pupils receive £1,445 per year.

The aim of the funding is to ensure an equality of opportunity and to ensure that pupils are not disadvantaged due to reduced income within the household. The funding enables schools to offer additional support to pupils so that they are able to achieve as well as their non FSM peers.

Children Looked After (CLA)

Each pupil who is CLA receives £1,800 per year

The aim of this funding is to ensure an equality of opportunity and to ensure that pupils are not disadvantaged due to their unsettled start to life. The funding enables schools to offer additional support to pupils so that they are able to achieve as well as their non CLA peers.
