Admissions

Royal Cross Primary is Lancashire's county provision School for deaf/HI Children. We accept pupils from the North, South and East of Lancashire, making us a county wide provision.

Most of our admissions take place in September but we welcome applications at any time during the year. Prospective parents and their children are actively encouraged to visit Royal Cross to explore our specialist provision for all hearing impaired children. At Royal Cross, we believe in working closely with families to achieve the best possible outcomes for every child, offering BSL support, Signed Supported English and Speech and Language Therapy, all within our school day.

Pupils can attend from pre-school age up to the end of year 6. A pupil may also be admitted at any time during his/her education according to need. It is expected that all our pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan or be in the process of assessment.

Places are offered subject to agreement of the Local Authority Admissions Panel; availability and suitability.

On receipt of a request and documentation from the area office, the following procedures will apply:

  • A visit to school by the potential pupil and parents
  • Pupils will be discussed at the school’s Admission Panel meeting (held termly).
  • A review of the documentation relating to the pupil by the Headteacher and potential class teacher.
  • A discussion with other professionals who have an awareness of the needs of the potential pupil.

Pupils are admitted from all areas of Lancashire and other surrounding Local Education Authorities.

We welcome the opportunity to meet parents and their children for an informal without prejudice visit.

Parental choice is important and it is essential that all parents of deaf/HI children have full access and information around the educational provision available in Lancashire for their children, this ensures an 'informed' choice is made.
